The Important of Transportation and Safety of Animals

While humans now transport animals by motor vehicle, animals were the primary source of transportation throughout history. Think of the cowboys riding horses for everyday transportation before the automobile was invented. Consider the herding and droving techniques that were used by horseback riders to move herds of sheep, reindeer and cattle considerable distances. Donkeys and mules were also heavily used for transportation purposes in historical times.

There was a time when animals were placed in cages and transported by carriage to market. Some were contained in this manner when headed to the circus or as spotlights in traveling zoo exhibits. Cages are still utilized to transport some animals used as a food source, but we now have more humane ways of transporting dogs, cats, horses and many other animals.

Since your job or volunteer position requires you to care for animals while on the move, you need to know how to keep each animal in your care safe and as comfortable as possible. This requires knowledge of the regulations and legal requirements associated with animal transportation in the modern world. You should also understand how animals react to movement-related stress and what you can do to effectively ease that stress for a safer, happier trip.

Each animal is unique and may behave differently in stressful situations. This certification course is designed to give you the information needed to safely, legally and comfortably transport a variety of animals.
